Kota Lukut lies 4 km north of Port Dickson town and sits on top of a hill. This historical fort was once the stronghold of a Bugis warrior called Raja Jumaat who held control over the tin mining trade of Lukut in ancient times. Today, the hill top is nothing more than an empty field with a dry moat, grassy mounds and a few stone wall remnants. A few watch towers and sheds have been built for visitors to shelter under around the castle grounds, but otherwise, there is nothing much to do here. The Lukut Museum, also called Muzium Lukut, is the far more interesting attraction. This museum is built in the shape of a traditional Minangkabau house, which is unique to Negeri Sembilan state's culture and heritage. Inside the house are various galleries depicting the history and culture of Lukut, including tin mining equipment, clothing, weapons, musical instruments and other relics of the past. Outside around the grounds are random cannons. Overall, Kota Lukut is well landscaped though there seems to be a dearth of tourist substance. |
