The Blue Lagoon is a relatively unpolluted and pleasant beach located in a quiet area far off from major development, and still surrounded by natural trees and original vegetation. It is about 15 km away from Port Dickson Town, accessible via a turn-off from the Jalan Pantai main road through the army base (signboards indicate where to turn). This lagoon is protected on each side by a sharp cape and a sand bar in the distance keeps the waters enclosed in a shallow pool. Also known as Tanjung Biru, the Blue Lagoon once took its name from the clarity of the waters that reflected the sun rays, giving the lagoon a bluish appearance.
Today, the beach is no longer how it once was, and the waters no longer reflect its name. A large concrete embankment has been built next to the shoreline, which houses a food court but spoils the overall environment. From the beach, there is an access road next to the Ilham Beach Resort to the Tanjung Tuan lighthouse, a popular spot for bird watching and other nature activities. If you travel back to the other side of the main cape from the Blue Lagoon, you'll come across Pantai Cermin, which is another beach area lined with mangroves at some parts. The main hotel that services and faces the Blue Lagoon directly is the Ilham Beach Resort. |
