Port Dickson

Port Dickson offers the usual range of activities for families and friends to enjoy that would be expected from a beachside destination. Most visitors head down to Teluk Kemang, which is the most popular beach in Port Dickson for tourists, to enjoy water sports. The Eagle Ranch Resort located far down south from Port Dickson is a getaway for large groups of guests with a recreational theme and plenty of team-building activities. Finally, there are many mangroves and marshy areas alongside the beaches which provide great sport for anglers and good catches of fish.
Water Sports
Water sports and activities in Port Dickson
Water sports are one of the main attractions of Port Dickson's beaches. Almost every beachside resort worth its salt has their own facilities for sea sports but for general visitors and tourists, Teluk Kemang would be the best destination for these pursuits. This is a 2 km stretch of orange beach located along Jalan Pantai from km 16 onwards. Each day, this beach and its immediate waters are a constant flurry of activity from bathers and jet skis.

Most of the main beachs along Port Dickson offer some form of water sports, but Teluk Kemang has the full range of activities. These include canoeing, jet skiing, para-gliding, wind surfing, speed boating and rafting. You can try a ride on the banana boat, which is a long and yellow float on which a group of people clamber on board and try to hold on as a speed boat pulls it at rapid speed across the water. Speed boats are also available for hire if you want to push out further to sea, for fun or for fishing. On the beach itself and out of the water, visitors can play volleyball, beach soccer, drive buggies across the sand or even ride horses in the square.

Most families, however, are content to just lay out mats and lie lazily on the beach while their children play in the waters. Other more adventurous people will paddle out to sea in tiny canoes and go as far as they can. As locals make up the bulk of the crowd, the beach can get pretty noisy but if you're having fun, you probably won't even notice. There are dozens of stalls operating along the beach which provide jet skis, canoes, floats, tubes and all the other sports facilities, including beach chairs for rent. Just approach the one closest to you and pick the activity of your choice. Do note that the waters in Teluk Kemang are quite murky, which is why there are no snorkelling activities.
Eagle Ranch
Eagle Ranch in Port Dickson
The Eagle Ranch is a beach resort located on the 14th Mile of Port Dickson. Situated on a vast 28-acre ground, the Eagle Ranch Resort offers a wide range of recreational and leisure activities. This is why the resort is popular for visitors that come in large groups for purposes such as corporate retreats, church excursions, organised seminars, team-building, company training and other such functions.

The Eagle Ranch was built with the spaghetti western theme, so the buildings and grounds take their design cues from cowboys and the wild wild west. The list of activities offered by the resort is long, but they span a mix of indoor and outdoor pursuits. These include archery, rafting and canoeing in the sea, an obstacle course that offers great exercise in the form of abseiling, go-karting on a circuit, paint ball in a field and jungle trekking in the night or day. Guests can also ride horses and ponies from the stable around the resort grounds as part of their activities. An old rubber estate at the back has been converted into a pleasant fruit orchard where guests can pick tropical fruits when in season.

On the resort grounds is a fish pond that you can canoe in if you're afraid of doing it in the open sea as well as a swimming pool for those who dislike saltwater. The recreational activities are only available if you're staying in the resort, so for accommodation, Eagle Ranch Resort lets you rough it out by camping on their grounds or staying in chalets, dormitories and rooms. Some of the chalets and rooms are housed in structures resembling bandwagons, tepees, log cabins and traditional Malay kampung houses. Since the resort caters for large groups, they often have promotions for corporate packages that include telematches, team building and management games.
Fishing
Fishing from beach in Port Dickson
Fishing is a whole different group of activity for a different class of visitors. While there are a few fishing villages in Port Dickson that fish on a commercial basis, many others are also here for sport fishing or angling. Anywhere along the coast line of Port Dickson, one can sport a fisherman or two casting their lines or nets into the sea. Some of the best spots for fishing can be found in the Blue Lagoon and Teluk Pelanduk, which is down south from Port Dickson. Besides fish, one can also go spear hunting during the night if it's low tide for crabs and other crustaceans in the Blue Lagoon. The best times to fish are in the mornings and evenings.
